Chores

I've been taking care of small tasks that I've put off for the past few weeks in an effort to feel productive after the past two days of absolute laziness. E-mailing people, paying bills - that sort of thing. I can now say that this has been a productive afternoon. That's not to say that I didn't need the last two days. They were gloriously relaxing and I don't feel entirely guilty about them. Especially because I did manage to actually do things during them. I encourage you all to take a day or two to do what you need to do to relax once in awhile. It's the best.

Destroyed in Seconds

I'm currently watching the new show on the Discovery Channel show Destroyed in Seconds. It's hella awesome. The bro side of me loves that it's just a bunch of videos of things being absolutely fucked up. The narrator and host is the most intense man I've seen in a long time.

In other news, I did nothing today. I did laundry, I guess. Otherwise, I sat and read all morning and then all afternoon. I plan on doing it all evening as well. Tomorrow I have plans to get off of my fat ass. I'm meeting a friend for coffee in the morning.

To Be Still

The weather put a hold on the plans I had for this evening - getting some food with two good friends I haven't seen in far too long - so I stayed in and watched the Wild hockey game with my mother. I was a little upset that my plans didn't go through, but it was nice to just sit and relax with my mom. It's moments like those that I'm taking time off of school for.

It's not just an "I miss my mom" thing, though. I think what I've really been missing is relaxing moments, and moments of human contact. I haven't found anyone I've connected with at school in a long time, and those I used to connect with have either left or moved on. The environment at my school is much more conducive to frantic studying and classwork than to meeting the people that will define the rest of my life. Frantic studying is what some people need, but it's not what I need and I've been taking steps to fix that. I've met one or two people who are much more willing to drop things and go on an adventure, or spend an evening sitting quietly, and that's helped things.

The holidays were good. Simple and satisfying, the way they should be. Gifts always take a back seat in my family, leaving plenty of room to just be together. I couldn't ask for anything better.
