I've noticed that the only times I ever go to the library here on campus, and especially the "super quiet study-zones" that are in the library, are on days that I wear corduroy pants. I find this a little amusing. I generally receive at least one dirty look when this happens. I usually respond with an apologetic shrug, though once the person turns away I grin to myself.
Mockingbird Music is up and running. Check it out. Reviews of shows (actually, just one show at this point) and a few free downloads.
Here's a story:
I got excessively inebriated last night and decided that I wanted to leave campus. At the time it seemed like a great idea so I began walking in what I thought was south. I walked for about an hour, singing songs I know and generally feeling free. I was on a road somewhere outside of town when a car pulled up next to me. A police car. The man asked me how I was and where I was going. I think I slurred something like, "south - I needed to get away," as I pointed in the direction I was walking. He had a sympathetic look, probably because I was not actually going south (I am directionally challenged). He asked where I live and ended up giving me a ride back to my dorm building. He proceeded to tell me to get some water and some sleep. He was very nice and I was very amused. Looking back, it's sort of sad and very weird. It's a good story now though.
I think my wanderings are done for awhile. I'm taking a month off of school in January to generally collect my thoughts and spend some time away from the institution with which I've become increasingly disillusioned. After that I'll only have two semesters left on campus, another January term and a semester I plan to spend in Oregon. So I'm feeling rather positive about the future.
It's hard realizing that so much about the place you've committed two years of your life to is not what you thought it was going into it. It's also difficult to realize how short the list of people you'd make an effort to keep in touch with is. Mine includes a total of five people, I think, and one of those wants to transfer.
