It had been a long time since I was able to sleep for any great length of time, so I did while I could.
I was exhausted at midnight so I made my way to bed. Seven in the morning rolled around; the sun shone in through the slats of the mini blinds. My eyes opened slowly as someone walked past the open window.
A train blared its horn. Cars on the street kept a steady city beat. I fell into sleep again.
Nine AM, more footsteps. A family wandered past the window. The sound of children laughing. I heard a woman say, "Jellyfish, jellyfish."
I slept for another few hours.
Around noon I awoke, refreshed. Fully awake, I rolled out of bed with the faulty schematics of a ruined machine clear in my head. I had a plan.
I would build the machine.
I would keep jellyfish in an aquarium.
