Movement

The other day I absolutely destroyed my left thumbnail with a screw gun. It slipped off of the screw I was attempting to put into a two-by-four to create a door frame and my thumb got in the way. It made a horrible crunching noise and bled for a day and a half. My thumb is still swollen, and I'll have a hole in my thumbnail until it grows out in the next few months. I was upset because it was my second to last day of work for the summer and I had gotten through every other day without injury despite climbing rickety ladders in old barns, using huge saws, working with lighting equipment and electricity in the rain (just once) and all sorts of life endangering things. Then a screw gun ground my finger into a mess. God damn.

In other news, I think I'm finally getting a typewriter. I've been looking for one for months and the other day at a small gathering someone overheard me say that I'd like one. He told me to call him so I can take a look. I hope it works out.

The power went out early yesterday morning. I was sitting on my patio with a good friend when suddenly all of the street lamps clicked off and every air conditioner powered down. We had the only light for blocks thanks to a couple of torches I had lit. It was an incredible feeling: we both felt like we were the last two people on earth. I wish it would have lasted longer than five minutes.
